New Technical Bulletins

Tech Bulletin 206

Due to the minimal gap between heater/facer and the jaws, combined with the allowable position feedback tolerance in machine software, some machines may allow collisions under certain conditions. A kit is available including parts and instructions to change the pivot cylinders and position sensor magnet mounting for the heater/facer. Pivot cylinders change from MEBP0940335 to MEBP1033884. Retrofit of the lengthened stroke cylinders requires notching and repainting of the indexing carriage. Software updates are also necessary to enable the calibration of the heater/facer position up and down. Note that software updates alone without the mechanical changes, does not eliminate the possibility of collisions.

Tech Bulletin 207

This new field campaign bulletin was released to notify equipment owners of the need to replace the heater arm hardware in affected units. TracStar® 412i, Pit Bull® 412 carriage with attached heater, Rolling 412 with indexer, and Pit Bull® 412 with indexer manufactured prior to April of 2025 may have incorrect hardware installed. If you think you have an affected unit, please contact McElroy technical support for assistance.

Tech Bulletin 208

This new service bulletin was released to advise owners of an available retrofit kit for machines manufactured prior to mid-March 2025 that adds a baffle to the front engine cowling that directs engine air away from the fusion carriage. Some users have experienced inconsistent heater temps in some applications due the location of the heater in relation to the engine air flow. This optional kit will change the direction of the air to improve temperature stability. Contact McElroy technical support for more information.

Tech Bulletin 209

Due to decreased ability to support tablets, and obsolete components, McElroy has announced a trade-in program for the DataLogger® 6.

Now through December, we are running a trade-in program to incentivize owners to upgrade their DataLogger 6 units to DataLogger® 7 tablets. Trade-in incentive is for working or non-working units returned to McElroy and with the purchase of a new Datalogger 7.

Contact McElroy Technical Support for details.

Technical bulletin reminder

Tech Bulletin 204

This bulletin addresses reported challenges in aligning TracStar® 412i and TracStar® 618i heaters concentrically to the pipe outside diameter and potentially affecting proper latching in the down position. This bulletin includes information about the parts necessary to add an eccentric adjustment pin to the heater arm latching mechanism. These parts were implemented into production units Feb 3, 2025. Owners of equipment produced before Feb. 3, 2025 that exhibit heater alignment or latching challenges can add this kit to resolve them.

All technical bulletins can be accessed through the distributor portal.

June 24, 2025 Release Summary

Carriage Control Module (CCM) 1.006

What’s New?

  • Updated the end of travel (EOT) values for collision avoidance and start of fusion checks.

Additions and Improvements

  • Updated logic to raise heater for a longer period of time. This includes an update to withdraw at 70% if the open/close time is \<12 seconds, and the screen calibrated value if the open close time is >= 12 seconds. A user warning has also been updated to trip when the stop condition is reached, and the user is requesting movement towards the movable side.
  • The carriage is now closing at the fuse/cool pressure instead of the full system pressure. This allows the carriage to lower the pressure while moving instead of all at once while starting the soft close process. The pressure drops when starting the soft close process is lower, reducing the time.
  • Updated collision avoidance messaging to instruct an operator to index the heater all the way out or in before closing the carriage for improved experience.
  • Updated the feed forward calculation process. When calculating the feed forward voltages, the carriage now checks the drag pressure to determine if the voltage can be lowered to avoid overshoot.

Vehicle Control Module (VCM) v.2.011

What’s New?

  • Transferred the storage of heater offset to the vehicle control module.
  • Added a function required for changing the high speed track limit.
  • Added a maintenance reminder to change the “hydraulic breather” every 1,000 hours of operation.
  • Added a battery fault for low internal voltage when engine is running and if \<=12.5V. The trigger is currently set for 30 seconds.

Bug Fixes

  • Updated fault verbiage on display to read “jaw” rather than “clamp” throughout the system.
  • Updated logic so that when a unit is powered on, the fault will sound a constant beep regardless of if the alarm has been dismissed already or not.
  • An update was made to save the calibrated track value.

Additions and Improvements

  • Improved percentages of heater and facer arc sensors to facilitate troubleshooting.
  • Changed logic so that the heater would not be allowed “on” until both the fault had been acknowledged from the vehicle screen and the delta dropped to \<=19.
  • Updated filtering capabilities on SPNs.
  • Put new logic in place to improve valve performance.
  • Added F to C conversion for heater offset on the vehicle.
  • Updated FF32 to be continually transmitted. This was done for the heater offset saved value to be transmitted for tether case.

Operator Display Console v.2.0.7

What’s New?

  • Added navigation on the “Indexer Calibrations” to HEATER END OF TRAVEL and FACER END OF TRAVEL buttons which can only be adjusted if the CCM is connected.
  • Added a maintenance reminder to change the “hydraulic breather” every 1,000 hours of operation.
  • Added option to activate tracks in both “normal” and “crawl” speeds on the paddle switch calibration screen.
  • A new user warning was added to notify a user that access control from the vehicle is unavailable while the DataLogger® 7 tablet is tethered.

Bug Fixes

  • Updated fault verbiage on display to read “jaw” rather than “clamp” throughout the message the system.
  • Edited the QR code connect page verbiage to read that the information can be accessed on the “Wireless Information” page. Previous versions listed the “Display information” page in error.
  • Changed incorrect fault text for pin. The faults that referenced “J122” were changed to “J22” on the the affected SPNs.

Training reminder

McElroy University recently announced new opportunities for mechanics to enhance and validate their skills on McElroy Equipment and earn the title McElroy Trained Mechanic by successfully completing 13 assessments available within three groupings: Maintenance, Repair, and Diagnostics. As such, mechanics can focus their training on those areas that make the most sense for them at any given time and take full advantage of any prior training and experience.
