New McElroy Stub End Holders Make Fusions Easier

TULSA, Okla. — One aspect of the fusion of thermoplastic pipe just got easier. McElroy recently introduced a new Stub End Holder that firmly holds stub end fittings in place during the fusion process. The new holders are designed for 8-, 12- and 18-inch jaws or inserts.

Each unit features a single adjustment point that adjusts all four jaws of the stub end holder simultaneously, while automatically self-centering to ensure that the stub end is held concentric to the pipe. Previous designs required the user to tighten four holder clamps separately.

“Engineering a better Stub End Holder is just one part of McElroy’s commitment to making pipe fusion jobs easier and more productive,” said Chip McElroy, president and chief executive officer of McElroy. “We want the end user to have every advantage possible; we want them to be able to treat stub end fusion like any other fusion process that can be performed with equipment from the pipe fusion experts at McElroy.”

The serrated jaws of the new Stub End Holders offer improved gripping ability over previous designs and hold the stub end fitting securely throughout the fusion process. All three of the holders weigh less than 30 pounds, making it a simple accessory to carry to the jobsite.

Between the three new holder models, operators will have the capability to clamp fittings with outer diameters between 2.37 (60mm) and 21.27 inches (540mm). The 12- and 18-inch designs are capable of clamping on the inner diameter of the stub end to accommodate larger fitting sizes.
